An Obituary to E-mail

E-mail a term that caught the fancy of many in the advent of the new millennium is somehow fast loosing its existence thanks to the sudden takeover of Social Networking in our already busy lives....Gone are the days when baffled looking young guys and girls would steal time to make a visit to the nearby cyber cafe to frantically check their newly created e-mail accounts and get connected with the rest of the world...These days its more convenient to put up a status message to let all and sundry know how exactly you feel or even more stupid stuffs like what u had for dinner at your favorite restaurant....A simple click of the mouse and everyone in your friends list is aware of your current state......

How many of us now a days send an elaborate e-mail to our family or friends??? I believe the count would be as few as the letters in the word "E-Mail"...But all said and done it ruled our lives for more than a decade....From people declaring their love to receiving the news of death of a distant relative it has seen many sides of human emotions being sent accross the world... But like all good things which slowly nears its end the E-Mail too is slowly dying a silent death...Barring the official communication mode its personal touch is a mere a daily check to see if any interview calls have arrived from a recently uploaded resume....Ya nothing more than that at least for me....

I still remember the days when giving out your mail id was considered uber cool....The safest thing to ask a girl was her mail id when you knew asking for the phone number would be turned down outright. When the trend was of having in boxes filled with forwarded e-mails ranging from love quotes to religious ones threatening you of bringing bad luck if not forwarded to a certain number of people and you too doing it innocently to all in your address book unknowingly earning their unspoken anger....Many would flaunt having multiple mail ids too show how net savvy they were but actually just logged on to a single one....It was all fun exchanging those mails, sometime with pride on thinking how we have abolished the inland letters and the post cards from our lives....

Although it might seem convenient to let 200+ people on your friend list know how you feel through the medium of Social Networking, it still cant provide the privacy of an personalized mail or the charm of knowing that someone took the pain to take out time to write it especially for you and not declaring it to everyone....With Facebook ruling our life I feel the E-Mail is waiting for mercy killing and a decent burial instead of just keeping it alive for checking interview calls.......Hence an Obituary in advance......RIP
